Samsung Tocco Lite black Review

Samsung Tocco Lite blackThe Tocco Lite is Samsung's answer to the incredibly popular LG Cookie. This is a bargain touchscreen handset which is available in black, gold, pink and silver. Although unfortunately there is no 3G, the Tocco Lite does offer a useful and intuitive interface plus all the features that customers expect from a mobile phone such as 3.2 megapixel camera, music player, FM radio and Bluetooth. The secret to the incredible success of the LG Cookie was the fact that it was a touchscreen phone with loads of technology which was available for just £100. Samsung have released the Tocco Lite to compete directly with the Cookie in an attempt to win the title as the best budget touchscreen phone.

The specification of the Tocco Lite is almost exactly the same as the Cookie, but right now the Tocco Lite is retailing at a slightly higher price, so what advantages does the Tocco offer over and above the Cookie? Well, in physical terms the two phones are pretty much the same size (within a millimetre). The screens are also the same size, the same definition and the same pixel resolution. The Tocco Lite screen is a decent size at 3 inches and is a high resolution. The difference between the screens comes mainly from the Samsung TouchWiz user interface.

TouchWiz has been around for a while and can now be regarded as a mature and universally popular technology. There are widgets aplenty to help you customise your home screen and provide instant access to useful apps. There are some particularly good widgets for popular networks including MySpace, Facebook and YouTube.

The 3.2 megapixel camera has a digital zoom and the unique Samsung "Smile Shot" feature. This feature allows you take photos when the camera software thinks your subject is smiling. There is also a basic camcorder too along with a music player with FM radio and RDS with support for MP3 ringtones. Audio quality on the Tocco Lite is good with a virtual 3D surround effect and support for DNSe.

The memory on the Tocco Lite is expandable to 16GB using a microSD card. Connectivity is limited to Bluetooth and USB, there's no WiFi or 3G, so multimedia web browsing is not fantastic. However, remember this is a budget phone and you have to expect some compromise in features. Speed aside, the web browser is good.

The Tocco Lite is a great phone in its own right. It may lack some of the high end features such as 3G, GPS and WiFi, but it does offer a lot of phone for your money. What you do get is a great touchscreen, 3.2 megapixel camera, stereo FM radio with RDS, accelerometer sensor and handwriting recognition.
